"Since 2009, the Otsego County Soil and Water Conservation District has maintained a position of neutrality in regards to the possible use of high-volume, horizontal hydraulic fracturing as a means to extract natural gas from within our County. since that time, the District has:
- provided extensive comments on the draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement
- begun baseline water quality monitoring of 50 streams in the County
- provided guidance for those interested in baseline infomration on well water
- begun the process for staff to be certified in the field of erosion and sediment control on construction sites,
- participated in the County's Natural Gas Advisory Committee
- held and participated in public forums for the purpose of exchanging information.
These activities neither encourage nor discourage the use of this technique as a drilling method, but rather focus on an effort to educate and prepare Otsego County for the possiblility of its use."
